the people that came to Louisiana from Haiti were a mixture of both free men and the enslaved...I know this because I am Haitian...when the revolution happened, whites, mulattoes and free blacks took their slaves along with them. |

My wife & I are Creole & white folks dont like us & they call us niggers, Cajuns dont like us much either & blacks with no french in them, blacks that are not creole dont understand us...but we are black...Creole is African, French & Spanish or Indian....but the foundation is french & black. We have been made to hate ourselves & think that in order to make it we must "pass" as white but not all of us think that way...then we dont pass the culture & history on to our children. |

I am humble enough to admit there is a lot and do mean a lot I don't know about our history (and I do fully accept my African American heritage along with any other mixtures in that background).
However, I do defer to the scientific evidence that DNA testing provides even when that truth may not mesh with the official story. Did mixing occur between Blacks and NA? Yes. But, most of the mixing that did occur during slavery was between white and blacks. |

You dont know too much about our history bcs Native Americans had slaves and also Native American reservations were in Arkansas, Georgia, and Mississipi as well in the early 1800's. When black southerners say that they have NA ancestors they know what they are talking about. I dont believe the hype, most people know their backgrounds. |

Well actually it is the case the most black people do have at least some white in them, even if it is 10% or less. The practice of the white master sleeping with the slave woman was more widespread than is actually acknowledged. That happened throughout the South.
On the other hand, mixes of blacks and Indians is greatly exaggerated. Most of the mixing that did take place happened mostly in Louisiana and the Oklahoma territories. |

Also I read an article that said most African Americans have very little white and Indian blood in them and it depends on where they live. Some have more than others. But for Creoles and blacks of New Orleans the percentage is much higher, 22%. |

That is partially true. The truth is the vast majority of blacks in this country have European in them. Many of them are necessarily proud of it because the source of that ancestry is from the slave master or one of his sons or other relatives who raped the slave women. That is not a proud beginning. Many blacks prefer to say and believe that they are mixed with Indian rather than admit their European ancestry because the latter was not a voluntary mix. |

The thing is most people go by looks, if you look straight up black, blacks just want to hear that you're black and nothing else. In the case of many Creoles, they were too white to be black and too black to be white but some passed for white. |

Whites in general was never what Creoles had a problem with, it was the Anglo-Americans who marched into Louisiana and changed things which made all Creoles, whether white or mixed despise them. Everything was going fine for Creoles of color before the Louisiana Purchase. Creoles had been living free for hundreds of years and were respected by the French and treated as a separate ethnic group. Some even had more money than whites. |
